Power Saving Mode (PSM) in mobile networks

Power Saving Mode (PSM), is a feature designed for Internet of Things (IoT) devices within mobile networks. It helps to save battery life in IoT devices.

This mode puts the device into a deep sleep state. this saves power consumption of the mobile device.

While the UE is in this mode, it will be 'not reachable' for receiving any data from the network. However, the UE wakes up periodically based on pre-defined timer, or when it needs to send data to the network.

While the UE is in Power Saving Mode, it remains registered to the network. this saves time in order to not re-establish the connection when it needs to resume its activity.
