5G Frequencies in Mobile Network explained

5G frequencies contain a wide range of frequency bands to support various use cases and deployment scenarios. The key frequency bands used in 5G networks are,

  • Low-band frequencies (in the range of 600 MHz to 2 GHz): This range provides good coverage and penetration, suitable for widespread coverage and mobility.
  • Mid-band frequencies (in the range of 2 GHz to 6 GHz): This range offer a balance between coverage and capacity, suitable for urban and suburban areas.
  • High-band frequencies (in the range of 24 GHz to 47 GHz): This range is also known as millimeter-wave or mmWave. It provides very high data rates and capacity, but with limited coverage and penetration.
  • Unlicensed frequencies: Used in conjunction with licensed spectrum to provide additional capacity. (e.g. 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz unlicensed bands).

Frequency allocation and usage can vary significantly across different regions and countries based on the available spectrum and regulatory policies.
