AMF in 5G Network

AMF stands for "Access and Mobility Management Function". It is a key component of the 5G Core Network (5GC).

It handles the registration of the 5G user equipment (UE) to the 5G network. It authenticates the UE and authorises its access to the 5G services.

In addition, it tracks the location of the UE and manages its mobility within the 5G network.

The AMF communicates with various other 5G network functions, such as the Session Management Function (SMF), and the Unified Data Management (UDM), in order to perform its functions.
