N16 and N16a interface between different SMFs in 5G Network
N16 and N16a interfaces are the interfaces between different SMFs in the 5G Network.
The N16 interface exists in 5G roaming scenario, where it connects between the V-SMF (Visited SMF) that exists in the visited PLMN, and the H-SMF (Home SMF) that exists in the Home PLMN.
While the N16a interface exists in the 5G local network, between the I-SMF and the Original SMF (Anchor SMF).
When the user moves away from the SMF serving area of the current SMF, the AMF may insert an I-SMF to connect between the AMF and the original SMF. So that the N16a interface is the interface between the I-SMF, and the original SMF.
