EPC (Evolved Packet Core)
EPC stands for 'Evolved Packet Core'. It is the core network of 4G/LTE mobile network.
EPC consists of several elements that handle different functions such as:
- Mobility Management: The Mobility Management Entity (MME) manages the signaling required for user equipment attachment, authentication, and mobility.
- User Plane Routing: The Serving Gateway (S-GW) and Packet Data Network Gateway (P-GW) handle the routing of user data traffic between the user equipment and external IP networks.
- Policy and Charging Control: The Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) enforces policies related to user services, quality of service, and charging.
- Authentication and Subscriber Database: The Home Subscriber Server (HSS) maintains the subscriber database and handles authentication.
