MSC Server in Mobile Networks

MSC Server refers to (Mobile Switching Center) Server. It is a key component in 2G/3G mobile Circuit-Switched (CS) core network architecture. It is responsible for managing and controlling various CS functions, such as voice calls and SMS services, in the mobile network.

The MSC Server is responsible for handling and managing all voice calls and SMS messages for mobile subscribers within its service area. It performs call routing, call setup, call control, and call release.

In addition, it coordinates the mobility of subscribers in the CS network. It performs this by tracking the subscribers location, and updating the network about their current position.

Also it supports various supplementary services, such as call forwarding, call waiting, and call barring. And it manages the delivery of these services to mobile subscribers.

Also the MSC Server collects call detail records (CDRs) and other usage data. This data are then used for billing and charging purposes.
